Many proteins localize to the tight junction by various criteria, including immunofluorescence or immunogold labelling
of endogenous or exogenously expressed proteins. Less convincing are in vitro binding or immuno-precipitation experiments. Different
epithelial cell expresses its unique set of tight junction proteins. Sometimes, the same cells can express different proteins
depending on differentiation states, factors in the growth media, presence of other cell types, or even substrates for attachments.
